Hello shipmates! Our 2010 reunion will be Sept 2,3, & 4, 2010 at the Monarch
Hotel in Portland, Oregon. This years host is Clyde (Tweety) Rictor, SM3,
57-61. There will be a lot to do while in Oregon.
- Thursday the 2nd will be our
meet and greet day.
- Friday the 3rd, we will be taking a bus tour of the Columbia
river gorge.
- Saturday the 4th will be our banquet.
We had a very successful reunion in Rapid City in Sept of 2008. Our host up there
was Marvin Bonnett, BM1, 68-70. We toured Custer State Park, The Badlands, Crazy
Horse Memorial and Mt Rushmore. Many of the shipmates also went out on their
own to see several other tourist locations, including Deadwood, Devils Tower and
the Black Hills. Four shipmate toured the Black Hills on Harley Davidsons, with
shipmate Paul Michael as tour guide.
- Our reunion hotel is the Monarch Hotel in Clackamas (Portland South).
- Room
rates
are $89 for singles and doubles. $99 for triples, $109 for quads and $179 for
suites.
- Room rates are good 7 days before and after the reunion.
- Cut off day for the
rooms is August 5, 2010.
- The hotel has a complimentary shuttle from the airport.
- They also provide a shuttle to area shopping malls.

Clyde said to tell you guys that
OREGON DOES NOT HAVE SALES TAX, so your
wives can shop all they want.
- Our tour will be an all day tour by charter bus, with a stop for lunch. Lunch
will be
on your own. There will be several stops where we can get off the bus. Our tour
is
The Mount Hood Loop/Columbia Gorge. Take in the breathtaking view from
Crown Point Vista House located on the Historic Scenic Highway high above the
Columbia River. This tour passes several waterfalls, including Multnomah Falls
with a vertical drop of 620 feet.
Observe the unusual rock formations
on your way to visit Bonneville Dam,
the first federal dam on the
Columbia River. Visit the interpretive center and the fish hatchery where you learn of the life cycle of the
salmon as well as see an 80 year old Sturgeon fish, descendant of pre-historic
eras. Pass through the Hood River, known for wind surfing and lush fruit
orchards.
Enjoy the beautiful alpine scenery while you make your way to Timberline Lodge.
The National Historic Landmark features year round downhill skiing, and is the
frequent training site of the U.S. Olympic Ski Team. The tour is $56 and all
tips,
taxes and transportation are included.
- Our Saturday night banquet will be a sit down dinner. There are two choices of
entrees: Slow Roasted Prime Rib, which comes with creamed horseradish,
accompanied by roasted garlic mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables. priced
at $35. The second choice is Chicken Cordon Bleu which comes with hollandaise
sauce, accompanied by rice pilaf and seasonal vegetables. Price is $30. All
meals
come with your choice of salad (green salad, Caesar salad, Monarch salad with
glazed walnuts or the Northwest Pear salad.)
I would ask that all that are coming to please bring something for a raffle
prize.
Remember that most of the folks will be flying in, so limit the size please. We
will have a nice hospitality room also. It will be about the same size as the
one
we had in San Francisco.
We will be selling Mispillion hats and Mispillion polo shirts also. We have a
few
Mispillion ship patches (52-53 and 67-74) left for those who want to purchase
one. We are trying to get the mid to late 50's patches made and hope to have
some by reunion time. If you can’t make it and still want a Mispillion hat or
shirt, please contact Steve.
On a different note, we had a shipmate, Leo Hance, fall ill at the Rapid City
reunion. Leo spent several weeks in the hospital in Rapid City, then was taken
back to Vermont by an air ambulance. Leo passed away shortly after arriving
home. If you are coming, make sure that you fill in the info for emergency
contact information.
